Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before attending your safety course in Kingaroy and applying for your Queensland weapons licence.

Do I need to do the course if I have a firearm from a family member?

Yes. Even if you are inheriting or receiving a firearm from a family member, Queensland law requires you to hold a valid weapons licence for that category. Completing an approved firearms safety course is a mandatory prerequisite before you can submit your licence application to Queensland Police Service (QPS) Weapons Licensing.

What is the minimum age requirement to take the course?

The minimum age to complete the firearms safety course and apply for a minor's licence in Queensland is 11 years old. Participants under the age of 18 must have signed consent from a parent or legal guardian to attend the training.

What gear and documents do I need to bring on the day?

You must bring valid government-issued photographic ID (such as a driver licence or passport), along with suitable safety glasses and ear protection for the practical live-fire assessment. We also recommend wearing closed-toe shoes and comfortable range attire.

What happens after I pass the course to get my licence?

Once you successfully complete and pass the course, you will receive an official Statement of Attainment. With this certificate in hand, you can then proceed to apply for your Queensland weapons licence directly through the QPS Weapons Licensing online portal.

How long does the training day usually run?

Course durations vary by firearm category, but most courses run for a half day and cover both classroom theory and practical range handling. We advise allowing approximately 4 to 5 hours.

Where are the training courses conducted?

Our courses take place at an approved shooting range and training facility at the South Burnett Pistol Club. Full venue details and arrival times are provided immediately upon booking your spot.
